What's interesting

Doubled base storage is the meaningful quality-of-life upgrade. For years, the 256GB base MacBook Air has been cramped the moment users install a few apps, photos, and documents. 512GB at the $1,099 entry price removes the "need to upgrade to 512GB" conversation for most buyers. Tom's Hardware called this out as the single most important change versus M4 MacBook Air.

The M5 chip performance delta over M4 Air is roughly 15-20% in CPU-bound tasks and 4x in on-device AI workloads that exercise the per-core Neural Accelerator.
